Design Your Kitchen in a Weekend FAQs

Do I really have to complete the course in one weekend?

No, not at all. “In a weekend” is a framework, not a deadline. You can work through the course at your own pace, pause to research or discuss decisions, and come back whenever you need to.

Is this course for renovations and new builds?

Yes. Whether you’re renovating an existing kitchen or planning one for a new home, the process starts in the same place: understanding how you live, what you need and what matters most to you.

Do I need any design experience?

Not at all. You don’t need to know how to draw professionally, use design software or understand technical plans. The course is designed to guide you through the decisions step by step.

What exactly is included?

You’ll get self-paced video lessons that guide you through the kitchen planning process step by step, along with a downloadable workbook to help you work through the decisions as you go. The course also includes practical planning and drawing sheets, plus a final Kitchen Planning Brief to help you pull your priorities, layout direction, appliance information and design ideas together in one clear place.

Does this replace a kitchen designer or cabinetmaker?

No - and that's not the goal. This course helps you understand your own needs, priorities and ideas so you can have a much clearer and more productive conversation with the professionals who will design and build your kitchen.

Should I complete the course before speaking to a kitchen company?

You don’t have to. In fact, a kitchen company can be a valuable part of the process. The course helps you understand what matters to you, while still leaving room for their products, systems, experience and recommendations.

Can I use metric or imperial measurements?

You can use whichever measurement system is standard for you. I work in millimetres, but the course can be followed using metric or imperial.

What will I have by the end of the course?

You’ll have a much clearer understanding of how your kitchen needs to work, your preferred layout direction, your functional and design priorities, and a Kitchen Planning Brief that brings the key information together.
